Are you up-to-date with the anticipated changes in STAAR item types due to House Bill 3906? We want to leverage these changes and focus on instructional practices that help students make their thinking about texts visible. We want to ensure students have opportunities for a variety of authentic responses to text, both oral and written, and teachers have routines and strategies to use student responses as assessment data that helps them coach a reader’s next steps. Students being prepared for new item types is a bonus when we invest time in building authentic response skills.
